Elements of the Dance of Shiva in Yoga Training Complexes

Since the movements of the Dance of Shiva help to increase the concentration of attention, it is reasonable to practice them at the beginning of the training complex. In this case the energy of attention which is usually spread on the periphery will be quickly distracted and returned from all kinds of contacts, which had preceded the training, into the ancient state. And all of these will give the starting flow of Power.

More over practicing the elements of the Dance of Shiva activates the energy flows in peripheral channels and blows the Fire inside them. It is also a perfect physical warming-up for more complicated exercises, especially in the cold time of the year.

Symmetrical spiral arm movements, synchronized with spinal motion and intensive breathing, are one of the most efficient means to restore and increase the potential of the psychic-energy structure in training complexes. Therefore, these are built in Yoga training algorithms in places requiring rest, restoration or «acceleration of Power». Such hyperventilating movements and breath are often practiced standing on two feet in a transverse pass and also in a longitudinal pass, on the knees, sitting on the floor and in other positions.

More over the culture of arm, leg and spinal movements of the Dance of Shiva also serve as the basis for all the transitional movement techniques connecting Asanas. And in addition, fragments of the circular and spiral movements are used in performing different grips with hands in Asanas when one changes the initial positions of legs, in different Vinyasas or Asanas. Therefore, absolutely all movements of arms, legs and spine in training complexes, both basic and auxiliary, have special techniques that must be practiced in a conscious manner.

In general, the Dance of Shiva may be practiced as a separate type of training, as it has an independent goal and complete arsenal of technical devices to achieve this goal, which makes its technique independent and self-sufficient.

Using the elements of the Dance of Shiva has advantages for the practitioner of oriental martial arts. The motor centers of the brain that are acquainted with the movement algorithms of the Dance of Shiva, have stable schemes of various combinations of moves formed inside. Many of these moves will obviously be unexpected for the contestant’s opponent who knows a lesser number of all possible kinds of combinations. This «arsenal» will, no doubt, be useful not only to fighters, but also to magicians, considering life in society as a vast field for practicing the «art of stalking».
